Fair Food Program

Made Outside partnered with Fair Food Projects, a nonprofit known for the Fair Food Program, to create a powerful video highlighting labor law challenges and human rights violations in agricultural work. This project, developed entirely by the Made Outside team, sheds light on unfair working conditions in the food industry and the vital need for systemic reform.

The challenge was to address widespread issues like wage theft, harassment, and exploitation in agriculture while also presenting the necessity of fair labor practices across supply chains. Consumers don’t want to think about their food being grown under harsh conditions or workers being mistreated. Creating a concise, yet effective and educational video was both intriguing and challenging. It had to be emotive but informative. The video is designed to show potential large-scale farm participants the tangible benefits and costs of joining the Fair Food Program.

By partnering with a North Carolina farm and using the Fair Food Program’s worker-centered approach, the video authentically captured the real stories of laborers. Through compelling narratives and strategic direction, the project highlighted the urgent need for protection and inspired audiences to take action toward labor reform. Companies like Wendy’s, Walmart, and Subway support these certified Fair Food farms, which combat modern-day slavery. The video also encourages consumers to look for Fair Food stamps and logo stickers on Florida-based produce like strawberries and tomatoes to ensure ethical sourcing.

 

The video successfully raised awareness of critical human rights issues in agricultural labor, aligning with the Fair Food Program’s goals of worker protection, education, and ethical auditing. The project emphasized the importance of a humane and fair food system, inspiring viewers to advocate for stronger labor rights.
