The Challenge
18 Chestnuts, as a startup, faced the challenge of breaking into a competitive plant-based food market with no brand recognition. Ilona’s story of creativity, health, and sustainability needed to be communicated effectively to build trust and attract health-conscious consumers. The task was to create a brand identity that resonated with both direct-to-consumer buyers and retail shoppers, establishing credibility in both spaces.
As a nationwide, D2C brand with a decade in business and countless life-changing 5-star reviews, this family-started, family-owned brand had an ambitious mission to help all people find health with safe pots, pans, skillets and baking sheets that don’t leach toxic chemicals like other brands. We were up for the challenge.
We first started with a brand refresh to align the brand look and feel, colors and fonts with the target demographic. Then moved into content creation and website UX/UI design within the Shopify+ platform.
The Solution
Made Outside developed a cohesive, strong brand identity that brought 18 Chestnuts to the forefront of the plant-based food sector. The team created a striking packaging design (which won an ADDY Award in 2022) and launched a direct-to-consumer website alongside targeted social media campaigns. The brand quickly gained traction, expanding nationwide and securing placements in major retailers like Whole Foods, Earthfare, Bristol Farms, and Albertsons.
18 Chestnuts has also been recognized for its excellence, including being a finalist at the World Plant-Based Awards for Best Plant-Based Convenience Product, Best Plant-Based Packaging, and Best Plant-Based Startup. Keep an eye out for their award-winning soups on store shelves across the country!
