The short film Far From Home, produced by Stronger Together US in collaboration with Made Outside, highlights the plight of migrant workers in North American agriculture, specifically those recruited through the H-2A visa program. The film tells the real-life story of one family and explores how responsible recruitment practices can safeguard the rights of these workers. Through creative direction, scriptwriting, and production, Made Outside worked with a strategic film partner to execute this project, shedding light on labor exploitation and advocating for fair treatment in the agriculture industry.

The Challenge
Migrant workers often face exploitation in the form of illegal recruitment fees, wage theft, gender discrimination, and restricted movement through confiscated documents. This situation is further exacerbated by a lack of awareness among employers about the hidden signs of labor exploitation, contributing to unsafe and unethical work conditions.
The Solution
Far From Home serves as a tool to raise awareness about these issues and to educate employers on responsible recruitment practices. By showcasing best practices, the film advocates for engagement with ethical farm labor contractors who follow the “Employer Pays Principle.” This project aims to inspire employers to reassess and improve their recruitment processes to ensure fair treatment of migrant workers.
